US President Donald Trump expressed his strong support for the US – Vietnam bilateral relations, welcoming recent efforts from the Vietnamese government against trade fraud.
US President Donald Trump and Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc discussed and expected the soon signing of the memorandum of understanding on long-term cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and the US Department of Energy for large scale import of US liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The information was revealed at the meeting of the two leaders on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.
Regarding the deal, Trump welcomed the strategic cooperation in energy between the two countries and asked for balanced bilateral trade for mutual benefits.
Additionally, Trump expressed his strong support for the US – Vietnam bilateral relations, welcoming recent efforts from the Vietnamese government against trade fraud.
Over the past few years, the US – Vietnam relations have been growing strongly, especially in trade and economy. In 2018, bilateral trade reached US$58.84 billion, and Vietnam was one of the US's fastest-growing export markets, according the US Census Bureau.
President Trump and Prime Minister Phuc are in Osaka to attend the two-working day G20 summit from June 28 – 29.
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Phuc also had bilateral meetings with China’s President Xi Jinping, President of Chile, Prime Ministers of India, Canada, President of the European Commission and Director General of the World Health Organization to boost cooperation between Vietnam and its partners.
