Vietnamese Prime Minister opens world’s largest stock exchange trading session

The Vietnamese prime minister requested the bourse to advise investors of Vietnam’s favorable business and investment environment in his second visit to NYSE at the invitation of the world’s largest equities-based exchange.

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange’s Thursday trading session [September 21] local time.

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)’s Vice President John Tuttle welcomed Prime Minister Chinh to mark the start of the session at 9:30 a.m.

On the second time he was invited to the stock exchange after the first time on May 16, 2022, when he rang the bell to close a session, PM Chinh said the NYSE’s market capitalization of US$40 trillion was very impressive.

PM Chinh was accompanied by the Finance Minister and other high-ranking cabinet members during the visit to strengthen bilateral ties and recognize the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Taking the upgrading of the US-Vietnam relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during President Joe Biden’s visit to Vietnam on September 10-11 as evidence proving the improvement in the relationship, PM Chinh called on the bourse to inform investors about the advantageous business and investment environment that Vietnam offers.

On this occasion, he requested that the NYSE offer technological assistance and human resource development to the Vietnamese stock market in order to connect it with the NYSE and other top international stock exchanges.

John Tuttle said: “We are willing to help get Vietnamese businesses listed on the NYSE and cooperate in cross-listing on each other’s markets.”
