Vietnam quarantines all people returning from Army Games in Russia

Fourteen people from the Vietnamese delegation have tested positive for the virus.

All participations returning from the 2020 International Army Games in Russia, one of five countries having the highest coronavirus infections, have been quarantined in Hanoi upon the arrival on September 8.

Fourteen of 125 Vietnamese officers and soldiers who took part in the games have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to Hoang Duc Hanh, deputy director of the Hanoi's Department of Health.

A group of 11 others who made contact with the suspected cases have been also quarantined at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases on the outskirts of Hanoi.

Meanwhile, 22 officials and staff of the Russian Embassy in Hanoi are quarantined at Crowne Plaza West Hanoi.

A delegation of 125 Vietnamese 125 officers and soldiers attended the International Army Games that was held from August 23 to September 5 mainly in Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Uzbekistan.

Russia recorded more than one million cases and almost 18,000 deaths as of September 8. Vietnam’s confirmed tally on the same day was 1,054 and 35, respectively.

Vietnam has bagged three bronze medals and a champion cup at the 2020 games. This is the third year the country participated in the games.

On September 4, Vietnam won the gold medal in the Group 2’s final of the tank biathlon category at the games held in Russia.

According to the Vietnam People’s Army, taking part in the games is part of Vietnam’s efforts to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam-Russia ties.
