Vietnam rallies nationwide support for typhoon bualoi victims

Typhoon Bualoi devastated Vietnam’s northern and central regions, leaving 44 people dead, 21 missing, 164 injured and more than 170,000 houses damaged or unroofed as of the night of October 2.

THE HANOI TIMES — Many Vietnamese agencies and organizations have appealed for fund to support victims in areas ravaged by Typhoon Bualoi to help them stabilize their lives.

The Office of the Party Central Committee launched a fundraising drive in Hanoi on October 2 to support the residents. Party General Secretary To Lam joined officials and employees at the event, with each contributing at least one day’s salary to the relief fund.

The Party leader offered the profound condolences to families mourning loved ones and extended a hand to those wrestling with loss and hardship in the storm’s wake.

Lam emphasized the critical need for search-and-rescue operations, house and school repairs, the supply of temporary shelter, food, water and essential supplies, ensuring that residents retain access to medical care.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) has raised over VND673 billion (US$26 million) in donations from agencies, businesses and philanthropists to aid communities devastated by the disaster.

During a ceremony in Hanoi on October 2, President of the VFF Do Van Chien delivered an urgent appeal for public support to rebuild battered areas.

In a related effort, the Hanoi government on the same day presented 12 storm-stricken provinces a total amount of VND100 billion (US$4.2 million) with the spirit of “Hanoi for the whole country, with the whole country.”

"All the donations will be sent to 17 cities and provinces. Following the launch ceremony, the VFF Central Committee will continue receiving donations at its headquarters No.46 Trang Thi Street, Hanoi," said Chien.

The Vietnam Red Cross Society on October 1 launched the nationwide campaign "Joining hands to overcome floods" until October 30 to support natural disaster victims
