Vietnam’s para chess team wins medals at 2025 World Championship

Vietnam’s para chess team shines at 2025 World Championship with 4 medals, led by Hanoi player Tran Thi Bich Thuy.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam’s para chess team claimed 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals at the 2025 World Chess Championship for People with Disabilities, which concluded on July 31 in India.

Hanoi-based player Tran Thi Bich Thuy stood out with three medals: gold in blitz, silver in standard, and bronze in rapid (women’s wheelchair category). Meanwhile, Doan Thu Huyen earned a bronze in blitz (women’s physical disability category).

The tournament featured 97 players from 18 countries, competing in standard, rapid, and blitz formats.

Head coach Bui Quang Vu praised the team’s performance and highlighted its potential for future international events.

Vietnamese chess for people with disabilities is developing strongly, as shown by impressive achievements in international competitions, affirming the efforts and talent of Vietnamese players.

Earlier in April, Vietnam won three golds at the World Youth and Cadets Chess Championship at the U14 Category held in Greece. 

 At the 2024 Asian Youth Chess Championship held in Kazakhstan in June, Vietnam ranked 3rd after securing 10 gold, 16 silver, and 15 bronze medals.
