The SCMP praised Ta Van for preserving its cultural identity while providing immersive experiences. Visitors can experience farming activities, weave textiles with the locals, and savor authentic mountain cuisine while lodging in homestays.
The village’s terraced fields resemble "nature’s mirrors" during the rainy season and golden carpets during harvest time, adding to their ethereal charm.
Ta Van’s rise to global recognition is bolstered by its thriving community-based tourism model, one of the first of its kind in the region. According to Lao Cai’s official portal, the village welcomed 200 to 300 visitors daily during the 2024 peak season, with 63 homestays and over 300 rooms, largely catering to international guests.
The SCMP accolade further solidifies Ta Van’s reputation as a cultural and natural gem, which aligns with Vietnam’s efforts to showcase its highland treasures to the world. For those yearning to disconnect and embrace the soul of the mountains, Ta Van is a timeless destination.
