Vietnam welcomes Turkey’s defense attaché office opening
Setting up a defense attaché office will lay a solid foundation for Vietnam and Turkey to strengthen their bilateral ties.
THE HANOI TIMES — Appointing resident defense attachés in each other's countries will help Vietnam and Turkey advance their bilateral defense ties, according to Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defense.
“Vietnam is willing to create all favorable conditions for Turkey to establish its defense attaché office in Vietnam as soon as possible,” Chien said at a meeting with Turkish Minister of National Defense Yağmur Güler on July 23 when he is on a working visit to Turkey.

Both sides also reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening collaboration in key areas, including post-war unexploded ordnance clearance and cybersecurity.
Chien reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to expanding cooperation, a sentiment echoed by Minister Güler.
On the same day, Deputy Minister Chien and his Turkish counterpart Musa Heybet signed an agreement between the two ministries of national defense, marking a new step forward in military cooperation, mainly key areas namely training, defense industry, UN peacekeeping missions.
Chien also invited Turkish defense enterprises and representatives to Vietnam’s International Defense Expo, which is expected to take place at the end of 2026.
On this occasion, the delegation attended the 17th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2025).
