Vietnam wins five golds on first day of SEA Games 32

Vietnam bagged gold medals in karate, Vovinam, and athletics on the first day (May 6) of SEA Games 32.

Vietnamese athletes bringing in the first gold medals at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Cambodia are women's karate team Nguyen Ngoc Tram, Luu Thi Thu Uyen, and Nguyen Thi Phuong; men's karate team Le Hong Phuc, Pham Minh Duc, and Giang Viet Anh; Le Thi Hien; Tran Nguyen Hung; and Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc.

Soon after that, the Vietnamese men's karate team consisting of Le Hong Phuc, Pham Minh Duc, and Giang Viet Anh convincingly won another gold medal for Vietnam. As a result, the national karate team took first place in the team competition, followed by Indonesia.

In the Vovinam competition, the 55-kilogram female athlete Le Thi Hien convincingly defeated the Lao competitor with a score of 7-0, bringing the third gold medal for Vietnam. It was also the first gold medal for Vietnamese Vovinam athletes at SEA Games 32.

A few hours later, Tran Hung Nguyen won the gold medal in the 200m individual medley swimming with a record time of two minutes, one second 28. 

Finally, athlete Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc, 33, won the gold medal in the women's 20km race walking event at the regional sports competition.
