Vietnamese leaders congratulate President Donald Trump on inauguration day

Vietnamese leaders expressed confidence that, under Trump's leadership, the partnership would continue to grow based on mutual respect for independence, sovereignty, and political systems.

General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended congratulatory letters to Donald Trump on his official inauguration as the 47th President of the United States on January 21, 2025 (Hanoi time).

General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam views the United States as a strategically important partner. They expressed confidence that, under President Donald Trump's leadership, the Vietnam-US relationship will continue to strengthen.

This growth, they noted, will be based on mutual respect for each other's independence, sovereignty, and political systems. The leaders also highlighted the shared commitment to peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development both regionally and globally. This milestone comes at a particularly significant time as the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1995-2025) and the second anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the United States.

On the same day, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan also sent a congratulatory letter to Vice President James David Vance.

Donald Trump officially assumed office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, marking his non-consecutive second term after winning the 2024 election against incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris.

After the inauguration, President Donald Trump unveiled a series of ambitious commitments. If implemented, these plans will reshape the economy, politics, culture, and the role of the United States on the international stage.
