The congratulation was extended shortly after the conclusion of the CPC’s week-long 20th National Congress, attended by more than 2,300 delegates.

In his message, Trong sincerely congratulated Xi Jinping on being elected to the position of CPC's secretary general and on the CPC Congress's success.

He believed that under the leadership of Xi, who also served as chairman of the Central Military Commission since 2012 and president of the People’s Republic of China since 2013, China would “soon successfully achieve the fundamental objective of completing socialist modernization, progressing toward making China a modern, prosperous, democratic, civilized, harmonious and beautiful socialist nation."

Trong said: “We respect and appreciate your positive attitudes, care, and outstanding contributions to Vietnam-China ties in the interests of the two peoples."

The Vietnamese top leader hoped that he and Xi would continue to pay great attention and direct authorities of the two sides to understand thoroughly and implement the agreements reached by the two countries' leaders. This effort helps promote the Vietnam – China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership towards a stable, healthy, and sustainable state that meets the long-term interests of the two parties, two countries and two peoples, for peace, stability, cooperation, and development of the region and the world.

Trong expected to meet Xi soon to deepen their discussions on strategic issues, further strengthening political trust, and set the main directions for the future development of the two countries.
