Its key topics are Vietnam’s own initiatives to be discussed at open meetings with the hosting of Vietnam’s top leaders sometimes, according to Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Vietnam's Permanent Representative to the UN.

The first priority is enhancing the cooperation between the UN and regional organizations to build trust and prevent conflicts, which will be promoted through a ministerial level meetings scheduled to take place on April 19.

The second will be an event to be held on April 8 to openly talk on bomb and mine with a focus on settling wartime consequences and having solutions for the silent killers in more than 60 countries and territories, harming the life of many people, mostly women and children.

The third issue will be dealt with at an open meeting on April 28 with discussion on the protection of essentials for civilians in conflict areas.

Efforts to prevent sexual violence in conflict is the fourth topic to be discussed on April 14. To that aim, participants seek the best solutions to avoid life-long hurt to women and girls.

Regarding the role of the UNSC president, Ambassador Quy highlighted the need to reconcile and find out a common formula for joint work among the council’s members.

He said the majority of the meetings will be held virtually but pinned his hopes on face-to-face gatherings at the end of April when a large number of representatives get vaccinated and all 15 member states agree to meet in person.

The presidency of the council is held by each of the members in turn for one month, following the English alphabetical order of the member states names.
