EC President tours Temple of Literature on official visit

The stop at the Temple of Literature reflected recognition of Vietnam’s deep-rooted culture of education and scholarship, underscoring the site’s enduring significance as a symbol of learning and academic excellence in Vietnamese history.

THE HANOI TIMES — On the afternoon of January 29, European Council President Antonio Costa and his delegation toured Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam (the Temple of Literature) during his official visit to Vietnam for a new height in the relations.

The delegation, including EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier, was received by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong.

Historically, the Temple of Literature served as Vietnam’s foremost center for education and training, nurturing generations of talent for the country.

Today, it is not only a site for honoring outstanding students but also a venue for cultural, traditional and folk activities, contributing to the preservation and promotion of Vietnam’s cultural heritage.

Before concluding the visit, President António Costa wrote in the guest book, expressing his admiration for the site’s historical and cultural values.

On the occasion, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong presented President António Costa with a commemorative gift, a French-language book titled “The Temple of Literature during the French colonial period.”
