General Secretary To Lam welcomed General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping on April 14 with a State-level ceremony, showcasing the significance of the Vietnam-China relations.

THE HANOI TIMES — General Secretary To Lam presided over an official welcome ceremony for General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping at the Presidential Palace in Hà Nội on April 14.

As General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President Xi Jinping ascended the podium, the national anthems of Vietnam and China were solemnly played. This marks Xi’s fourth official visit to Vietnam in his position as China’s top leader.

Twenty-one ceremonial cannon shots are fired from the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long to welcome the Chinese leader. The visit is particularly significant as it coincides with the "Year of People-to-People Exchange" and commemorates the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China (1950-2025).

After the anthems, the two leaders inspect the Vietnam People's Army honor guard and introduce the senior members of each delegation. Vietnam and China are close neighbors with a long tradition of friendship between their peoples.

A large crowd of children and residents lined the street, waving flags and flowers to welcome General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and the high-level Chinese Party and State delegation. Since the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership in 2008, especially following recent historic visits of the top leaders of the two countries, bilateral relations have developed comprehensively and significantly in many areas.
