Hanoi enforces order for safe and caring Tet 2026

The goal is to ensure that residents welcome the New Year safety and joyfully while upholding the spirit of leaving no one behind.

THE HANOI TIMES — Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Dai Thang has instructed agencies and local authorities to strictly follow the municipal Party Committee’s directive on the 2026 Lunar New Year, banning visits to superiors and the use of public funds for gifts, while ensuring a safe, thrifty and caring holiday.

It also aims to foster a positive atmosphere and energize patriotic movements and work enthusiasm to help fulfill political tasks for 2026 and the years ahead.

Thang instructed departments, agencies and ward and commune authorities to strictly implement Directive No. 05 and to fully carry out tasks set out in Plan No. 350 dated December 18, 2025, on organizing activities for the 2026 New Year holiday and Lunar New Year across the city.

Localities and units are required to follow assigned timelines and responsibilities while mobilizing diverse social resources to support residents. Priority will be given to the poor, vulnerable groups, policy families, unemployed workers, elderly people living alone, orphans, children in special circumstances and ethnic minority communities.

The city also called for well-organized visits and support for veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, wounded and sick soldiers, families of fallen soldiers, families with meritorious service, intellectuals and artists, respected community figures among ethnic minorities and prominent religious dignitaries.

Attention is also required for armed forces units and on-duty personnel during the holiday, especially in areas far from the city center. At the same time, conditions must be ensured for the timely payment of salaries and Tet bonuses for workers.

Cultural and artistic activities, festivals, tree-planting events and New Year celebrations are to be organized in a practical and effective manner and linked with external relations, trade promotion and tourism promotion.

These efforts are intended to help reinforce the image of Hanoi as a safe, friendly, high-quality and attractive destination during Tet and major political events in 2026.

Alongside this localities and agencies must ensure political security, public order, traffic safety and fire prevention, while closely monitoring situations and promptly addressing issues at the grassroots level.

Urban beautification maintenance of greenery, lighting, environmental sanitation and urban order will be stepped up with strict handling of violations, especially illegal use of fireworks.

The document highlights strict discipline, ethical standards and measures to prevent waste and misconduct with enhanced inspection supervision and strict handling of violations during the holiday period.

Visits and Tet greetings to superiors and leaders at all levels are not permitted and the use of public funds for gifts in any form is strictly prohibited.

In addition, agencies and units must review workloads before the holiday to prevent delays or administrative bottlenecks. Sufficient staff and equipment must be in place during Tet.

Immediately after the holiday, all agencies and units must focus on rolling out key tasks for 2026 in line with directives from the central government and the city, noted the chairman.
