Hanoi looks to deepen cooperation with Chinese partners

Cooperation between Hanoi and Chinese localities, especially Beijing, is expected to see new breakthroughs in the coming period.

HANOI TIMES — Hanoi is ready to explore and promote new areas of cooperation with Chinese agencies and partners, building on strong bilateral potential and long-standing friendly ties, including people-to-people exchanges.

Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc made the remarks during a meeting with He Wei, China’s ambassador to Vietnam, in Hanoi on December 31.

Ngoc highlighted the recent positive outcomes of cooperation, friendship and people-to-people exchanges between Hanoi and Chinese counterparts, particularly with Beijing, saying these efforts have helped further deepen the two countries’ comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

“Cooperation between Hanoi and Chinese localities, especially Beijing, is expected to see new breakthroughs in the coming period,” Ngoc said.

Briefing the ambassador on Hanoi’s recent development, Ngoc said the city could draw valuable lessons from Beijing’s experience in a wide range of areas, and expressed his hope that Ambassador He Wei would continue to play an active role in strengthening bilateral ties.

Agreeing with these views, Ambassador He Wei said cooperation between the two sides was at an opportune stage, citing recent projects involving Chinese partners in Hanoi, including waste-to-energy plants and urban railway systems.

He praised Hanoi’s distinctive cultural character and said the city now faces development challenges similar to those Beijing encountered in the past, particularly in transport and environmental management.

“Well-planned infrastructure can support the development of strategic industries, improve the business environment and provide fresh impetus for Hanoi’s growth,” the ambassador said.

He also expressed hope that the two sides would expand cooperation in digital transformation and high technology, and encouraged Hanoi and Beijing to share experiences in urban governance and development.

“Improving grassroots governance can play an important role in accelerating project implementation by securing public consensus and support,” he said, while sharing several initiatives adopted by Beijing in this field.

The ambassador said he was confident that, with the backing of senior leaders from both countries, cooperation between the two sides would be successful, and that Hanoi would become “a vibrant international city in the new era, building on its thousand-year cultural legacy”.

Ngoc welcomed the proposals and called on the ambassador to actively connect the city with suitable Chinese partners in digital transformation and high technology, stressing cooperation that is practical, efficient and results-oriented.
