Hanoi Mayor Chu Ngoc Anh re-elected for term 2021-2026

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh has been re-elected with high endorsement.

The 16th Hanoi People’s Council in its first session today [June 23] has re-elected Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh for the position in the 2021-2026 term with the endorsement of 92 out of 94 deputies at present.

Born in Ba Vi district of Hanoi, Chu Ngoc Anh, 56, holds a Ph.D. degree and assumed various important positions in the Party and the Government.

His first job was as a lecturer at the Institute for Technical Physics under the Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 1988. Anh became Deputy Minister of Science and Technology in August 2010.

In March 2013, he was designated Deputy Secretary of the Phu Tho Provincial Party committee and two months later appointed Chairman of the Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee.

He returned to the position of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology in September 2015 and was promoted to Minister of Science and Technology in  April 2016.

In September 2020, the Politburo assigned Anh to hold the position of Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee for 2015-2020. He later was elected to the position of Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee for 2016-2021 by the municipal People’s Council.

The municipal People’s Council also voted for six vice-chairmen of the city People’s Council, including Le Hong Son, Nguyen Trong Dong, Duong Duc Tuan, Ha Minh Hai, Nguyen Manh Quyen, and Chu Xuan Dung.

Deputies of the People’s Council previously elected the incumbent Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan for another term (2021-2026), along with Pham Quy Tien as vice chairman and Phung Thi Hong Ha as vice chairwoman.

Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung said the nomination and voting processes were carried out in a careful and transparent manner.

“Those elected into key positions are highly qualified with a strong commitment to their respective responsibilities,” Dung noted.
