“I warmly welcome all elected deputies of the municipal People’s Council for the 2021-2026 term, and hope that all of you would fulfill the responsibilities of people’s representatives,” said Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, chairman of the Hanoi People’s Council in his opening speech.

With a turnout of 99.16% during the election day, voters in Hanoi had elected 29 deputies for the National Assembly, 95 for the city-level People’s Council, 1,052 at district-level, 10,593 at ward- and commune-levels.

“Such results demonstrated the solidarity, responsibility, and political awareness of the people in building a rule-based socialist state under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam,” he added.

According to Tuan, at the first session of the new municipal People’s Council, the delegates will vote for key positions of the city’s administration, including the people’s councils, people’s committees, and judges of the municipal people’s courts.

“Those elected in this session would be responsible for realizing resolutions adopted by the 13th National Party Congress and the 17th Hanoi’s Party Congress, with short-term goals being the successful materialization of Hanoi’s socio-economic development targets in 2021,” Tuan continued.
