Hanoi Party Chief urges elected representatives to act on people’s will
As a legislative body at the provincial level, the People’s Council is set to make key decisions for the city in the next five years.
Elected deputies of the Hanoi People’s Council should promptly roll out their action programs and realize their responsibilities as representatives of the people, said Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung in the first session of the 16th Hanoi People’s Council for the 2021-2026 term held today [June 23].

According to Dung, this session marks the beginning of a series of activities of the municipal People’s Council agenda in the 2021-2026 period that is aimed at turning Hanoi into a beautiful, civilized and modern city.
“As a legislative body at municipality level, the People’s Council is set to make key decisions for the city in the next five year,” Dung said, referring to a discussion about the state budget allocation for districts and communes as Hanoi is set to adopt the pilot urban administration model, and financing mechanism for the Covid-19 fight in the city.
“Deputies of the People’s Councils are representatives of the will, aspirations, and rights of the people, which are a huge honor and responsibility at the same time,” Dung added.
Among immediate tasks, Dung called for deputies to elect the qualified candidates into key positions in the municipal administration for the 2021-2026 term.
“Elected deputies are key to enhance the efficiency of the People’s Councils and People’s Committees by timely addressing public concern and measures to improve living standards,” he noted.
Making breakthroughs in priority fields

Chu Ngoc Anh, following his re-election into the position of Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, said the most important goal is to ensure the people and enterprises are “aware of their benefits from the operation and policies of the local authorities.”
Bearing this in mind, Anh noted the city would focus on making breakthroughs in priority fields.
The city’s mayor pointed to the necessity of upgrading socio-economic infrastructure, focusing on transportation projects that would improve connectivity between the city’s downtown and suburban areas, as well as with neighboring provinces/cities.
“Hanoi also aims at developing digital and IT infrastructure to lay the foundation for digital economy and society,” Anh stated.
Along with these efforts, Anh said the city is committed to perfecting the existing legal framework and policies to improve efficiency in social governance and urban administration, adding these are steps towards the development of e-government and eventually digital government.
Anh also mentioned the goal of promoting high-quality human resources as the city seeks broader integration into the global economy for sustainable development.
“As we strive to turn Hanoi into a worth-living city, the people and cultural values of the capital city would be the decisive factor for its future growth,” he added.
During the current pandemic outbreak, Anh said the city would continue to pursue the twin goal of protecting the public against Covid-19 and taking on measures to boost socio-economic recovery.
