Hanoi plans 52,000m2 museum project on Habeco land

Hanoi plans to transform the historic Hanoi Brewery site into a Beer Museum, highlighting culture, tourism and urban redevelopment.

THE HANOI TIMES — Hanoi government is considering building a beer museum on the land area of the Hanoi Beer, Alcohol and Beverage Joint Stock Corporation (Habeco) at 183 Hoang Hoa Tham Street, Ba Dinh Ward.

The brewing company and its facilities cover an area of 52,000 square meters in one of the most expensive areas of Hanoi.

Under an urban development plan approved in March 2021, the land plot is designated for mixed use with a public space, a high school, a housing complex and a parking zone.

At a meeting on September 17, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen assigned relevant departments and agencies to review land use plans, giving priority to the beer museum.

The Hanoi government expected to finalize the revision of the land development in Q4/2025 so that the project may kick off soon. The high school project will be relocated to an alternative site if possible.

Habeco and its facilities are among nine industrial establishments that need to move to suburban areas of Hanoi under a decision issued in August 2023. The relocation must be completed in five years.

The company traces its origins to the French-built Hommel Brewery in 1890, later restored and officially established as Hanoi Brewery in 1957. Among its most-known products across Vietnam are Hanoi Beer and Truc Bach Beer.

Habeco became an equitized corporation in 2008 after offloading 17% of the State capital to Danish brewer firm Carlsberg.
