Hanoi starts construction of Co Linh underpass to ease Ring Road 2 traffic

According to Ngo Ngoc Van, Director of the Management Board of Transport Construction Investment Projects of Hanoi, the underpass will be 600 meters long, including a 100-meter enclosed tunnel, a 260-meter open tunnel, and 240 meters of retaining walls.

The underpass will have a 27-meter-wide cross section with six traffic lanes. The total investment is estimated at VND750 billion (US$30 million). The project also includes lane expansion, traffic reorganization, technical infrastructure, green spaces, and traffic lights to ensure safety and urban aesthetics.

The city expects to complete and open the underpass within 26 months.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Duong Duc Tuan urged local authorities and contractors to maximize resources and ensure safe, efficient, and on-schedule construction.

With the determination of all stakeholders, Hanoi aims to finish the project on time, reduce congestion, and promote sustainable development in the city’s eastern gateway.

On the same day, city authorities also started the Viet Hung–Cau Bay Canal and Cu Khoi Lake projects.

Covering 38 hectares, the projects have a total investment of VND972 billion (US$37 million), including VND321 billion (US$12 million) for construction and VND528 billion (US$20 million) for residential relocation and resettlement.

These two infrastructure projects are among Hanoi’s 10 key projects launched to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the Capital’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2025).

Eight other projects include an opera house worth VND10 trillion (US$379 million) in Tay Ho Ward’s West Lake area.
