Vietnam ranks among the top 10 at the 2025 International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held in the Philippines.
THE HANOI TIMES — Nguyen Luong Thai Duy, an 11th-grade student from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, secured the sole gold medal for Vietnam at the Olympiad.
Duy ranked seventh overall out of some 300 contestants. Also from Hanoi, Le Hoang Kieu Anh, a 12th grader at the same school, earned a bronze medal.

Despite being the youngest member of the Vietnamese team, Nguyen Luong Thai Duy outperformed his peers with his exceptional performance.
The outstanding student has won multiple national and international awards, including first prize in the 10th grade national biology Olympiad and a silver medal in the 11th grade USA Biology Olympiad (Asian round).
The 36th IBO, hosted by Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines from July 19 to 27, brought together 298 participants from 81 countries and territories. The competition featured rigorous theoretical and practical exams.
The theoretical component featured 85 questions addressing global issues such as environmental pollution, green growth, carbon neutrality, climate change, and precision medicine. The 12-hour practical exams, held July 22–23, tested skills in biomedical analysis, molecular and cellular biology, ecology, and microbiology.
Vietnam’s success at this year's Olympiad highlights the country's commitment to excellence in science education and its successful strategies for cultivating talented students.
Since its debut in 1996, Vietnam has consistently ranked high, peaking in 2018 and 2024 with a total of three gold and one silver medal.
