Laos, Japan extend condolences to Vietnam following Ha Long Bay boat accident

The tragic boat accident has prompted expressions of solidarity from other countries.

THE HANOI TIMES — Leaders from Laos and Japan sent official messages of sympathy to Vietnam after a tourist boat capsized in Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed his solidarity with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh regarding the loss of life and property in the tragic incident that occurred on July 19.

In his message, he wrote: “On behalf of the Lao government and people, I would like to extend my sincere sympathy and deepest condolences to you, and through you, to the senior leaders of Vietnam, as well as to the fraternal Vietnamese Party, Government, and people, especially the local authorities and families affected by this natural disaster.”

On the day of the tragedy, Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi sent a message of condolence to Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son, offering the sympathy and support of the Japanese government and people.

On July 19, the Vinh Xanh boat carrying 58 tourists capsized in Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province, causing 37 deaths, two missing, and 10 rescued.
