More than 1,700 nominations worldwide for VinFuture Prize 2025

In addition to honoring groundbreaking innovations and exceptional individuals, the VinFuture Prize reflects Vietnam’s commitment to embracing the global trend of advancing lives through science and technology.

THE HANOI TIMES — The VinFuture Prize has tallied 1,705 nominations from 14,772 nominating partners this year, marking a twelvefold increase since 2020 and nearly doubling last year's total, highlighting the prize’s growing global presence and prestige among leading science and technology institutions worldwide.

According to the organizers, roughly half of this year's nominations are from top universities and research institutions, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Melbourne, University of Toronto, and the National University of Singapore.

According to a Stanford University study, 9.4% of the nominating partners are among the world’s top 2% most-cited researchers.

This year, nominations continue to focus on health and medicine, energy, transportation and infrastructure, environment and climate change, agriculture, and food.

The VinFuture Prize is dedicated to driving positive change for millions of people, regardless of their background, by championing research and innovation.

Past laureates include Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman (Grand Prize, 2021), Demis Hassabis (Special Prize, 2022), and Geoffrey Hinton and Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA (Grand Prize, 2024).

According to VinFuture Executive Director Dr. Le Thai Ha, the significant increase in partners and the excellence of the projects demonstrate the growing global trust in the prize and the urgent need for groundbreaking scientific solutions.

The preliminary round of the 2025 VinFuture Prize will take place from late May to August. The total prize pool for VinFuture is US$4.5 million, including a Grand Prize of US$3 million and three Special Prizes of US$500,000 each. Shortlisted candidates will be announced later this year.
