Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong, on behalf of the new members, thanked nearly 1,600 delegates attending the congress for their support and trust in electing the new executive body of the Communist Party of Vietnam, reported VOV.

The Party Central Committee of the 13th tenure vows to try its utmost to overcome difficulties and accomplish tasks in order to build up revolutionary gains, said Trong.

He called on all members of the committee to unite to successfully implement resolutions to be adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, so as to meet the requirements of the revolutionary cause in the new stage of development as well as the expectations of the entire Party, army and people.

The congress elected 200 members of the Party Central Committee, 18 members of the Political Bureau and five members of the Party’s Secretariat for the 2021-2026 tenure.

Notably, eight out of 18 Politburo members were re-elected, including Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, the Party’s Organisation Commission head Pham Minh Chinh, and Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Vuong Dinh Hue.

The new Party Central Committee re-elected Nguyen Phu Trong as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The Party congress was wrapped up on February 1, one day ahead of schedule. The decision to cut short the congress received strong support from all Party members attending the event.
