Philippines imports 340,000 Vietnamese vaccine doses to fight African swine fever
Vietnam expands African swine fever vaccine exports, affirming its veterinary sector’s credibility and strengthening presence in international livestock health markets.
THE HANOI TIMES — Veterinary vaccine producer AVAC Vietnam JSC on September 8 exported 340,000 doses of its African swine fever vaccine to the Philippines.
In July 2024, the company exported 160,000 doses of the same vaccine to the Philippines.

Juancho Robles, General Director of KPP Power Comodities - the importer, said that the vaccine achieved an efficacy rate of 92.78% in generating antibodies against the African swine fever virus.
“The herds remain generally healthy and the risk of outbreaks is significantly reduced,” he said, citing data from the Philippine government after a year of use.
Juancho Robles added that the Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Animal Industry will distribute the second batch to the government-run anti-swine fever programs, targeting voluntarily registered farms.
Experts noted that the successful export of 340,000 doses not only expands Vietnam’s presence in the international market but also highlights the country’s growing role in providing solutions to combat dangerous livestock diseases.
Chairwoman of the Vietnam Veterinary Technical Science Association Nguyen Thi Huong said that the second shipment to the Philippines reaffirms the credibility and effectiveness of the made-in-Vietnam vaccine and the Vietnamese animal health sector.
"It strengthens Vietnam as a source of solutions in fighting African swine fever in the region, encourages animal health companies to harness their R&D activities and expand the country's influence in the global markets," she said.
According to Huong, AVAC Vietnam has produced more than four million of African swine fever doses for the domestic market in the last three years, showing efficient and safe outcomes.
"The company's vaccine has been used in the Philippines, Indonesia and Nigeria. In early June, the company made its first shipment to Indonesia with 120,000 doses," said Huong.
While challenges remain in building broader international trust, ongoing collaboration between Vietnam, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is expected to lay a solid foundation for access to additional global markets in the future.
