Photo book collection captures Vietnam’s journey through renewal, identity and happiness

The book invites readers to discover Vietnam as a layered and living tapestry, shaped by ordinary moments that reveal quiet beauty, social harmony and human warmth.

THE HANOI TIMES  The Vietnam News Agency Publishing House has released a set of three bilingual photobooks in Vietnamese and English to offer a cultural reflection as the country approaches the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

A photo by Nguyen Quoc Dung chosen as the cover for the book Happy Vietnam.

Titled Happy Vietnam, the first volume features nearly 200 photographs by multiple photographers and is divided into three sections: a beautiful country, a land of festivals and tourism and a country of peace and happiness in everyday life.

Through carefully curated images, the book invites readers to discover Vietnam as a layered and living tapestry, shaped by ordinary moments that reveal quiet beauty, social harmony and human warmth.

The photographs convey clear messages about the right to life and respect for cultural identity, while emphasizing stability and peace as the foundation of collective happiness.

With a calm and objective visual narrative, the first book titled Happy Vietnam affirms the right to “pursue happiness” for every citizen, echoing President Ho Chi Minh’s words in the Declaration of Independence proclaimed at Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945, which marked the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The second book, Vietnam – 40 Years of Renewal (1986-2026), highlights landmark achievements over four decades of Doi Moi (Renewal) under the leadership of the Party.

This transformative period reshaped the nation’s development path, helping Vietnam overcome socio-economic crises, move beyond economic embargoes, deepen international integration and maintain steady growth.

Combining concise texts with more than 500 carefully selected photographs and archival documents, mainly from the Vietnam News Agency, the publication offers a clear and structured overview of the renewal process and its defining milestones.

The third volume, Vietnam – A Land Woven of Mountains and Waves, brings together award-winning works from national photo contests and exhibitions titled Pride in the Frontier Strip and Fatherland by the Waves, held between 2020 and 2025.

Created by photographers from across the country, the images capture the grandeur of borderlands, seas and islands, while portraying daily life, labor, defense efforts and close bonds among ethnic communities, officials and soldiers on the nation’s frontlines.

Each photograph delivers an authentic and powerful snapshot that affirms national sovereignty and spreads patriotism, pride and social solidarity.

Together, the three books promote Vietnam’s image at home and abroad and serve as valuable external information publications.

They aim to nurture confidence, aspiration and determination as the country advances toward a future of prosperity, resilience and shared happiness.
