The relations have been forged towards peace, stability, development and prosperity in Asia and the Indo-Pacific region as a whole.
The two countries see China’s escalating influence and military activity in the region as a security threat.
Japan is the 10th country rejecting China’s maritime claims in the South China Sea (called East Sea by Vietnam) following Malaysia’s initial role with a Note Verbale submitted in December 2019.
