Phu Quoc allocated more than 2,000ha of land to 85 projects

Up to the end of December, 2017, the Management Board of Phu Quoc Economic Zone has allocated and leased land to 85 projects with the total area of 2,103.3ha.

Of which, the allocated land is 513.4ha; the leased land is 1,545.3ha; the leased sea water surface area is 3.39ha; the area of land transferred from commercial & service use to residential use is 42.82ha, according to the Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee report.

Specifically, in 2016, Kien Giang province gave permission to Vinpearl Phu Quoc One Member Limited Liability Company for the swapping of land use purpose: from commercial & service to residential at Bai Dai tourist zone, Ganh Dau commune, initially with an area of ​​42.2 ha, then reduced to 40.64 ha.
In December 2017, the province continued to allow conversion of commercial & service land to residential land for Sun Phu Quoc Ltd. Co at the Premier Village Phu Quoc Resort with an area of ​​2.17ha.
At the moment, the Government Inspectorate is conducting inspection of land use planning and management in ​​the Phu Quoc island district.
The southern province of Kien Giang is now home to 7 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total registered capital of over US$1 billion in 2017. In a related development, the Executive Committee of the Phu Quoc Party Committee has disciplined Dinh Khoa Toan, Chairman of Phu Quoc People's Committee, in the form of party’s reprimand, due to the increasing occurrences of construction works without or not in line with permission, along with other violations, according to the Inspection Commission of the Kien Giang provincial Party Committee.
In addition, Vice Chairman of the Phu Quoc People's Committee, Huynh Quang Hung was also reviewed to draw experience. Vice Chairman Huynh Quang Hung has many shortcomings and mistakes in carrying out compensation, support and resettlement tasks, as well as in granting of land use right certificates.
Furthermore, even though being tasked with the head position in the Compensation, Support and Resettlement Council, Hung inadequately performed inspection, leading to wrong compensation of more than VND1.3 billion (US$57.200), or at certain times advised the chairman not on a timely basis which has caused wrongdoings.
