Hanoi opens applications to buy former rental social housing units
Social homes having been rented for two years on the city's outskirts are now available for public interest.
THE HANOI TIMES — The Hanoi Department of Construction is receiving applications to purchase social housing units that tenants have rented for the required period at two projects, including Bamboo Garden and the Dong Hoi resettlement area.
These apartments previously fell under the rent-to-own program and have now shifted to direct sale under current regulations.

The Bamboo Garden social housing complex developed by CEO Group JSC has opened its first sales phase.
It sits at the former Quoc Oai urban area, spanning the areas of Tay Phuong and Quoc Oai communes, about 30 kilometers from the city center.
The project offers 86 units converted from rental to sale, with floor areas ranging from 48.6 to 58.6 square meters.
The selling price stands at nearly VND10 million (US$380) per square meter, including VAT and maintenance fees, which puts each unit at about VND486 million ($18,470) to VND586 million ($22,270).
Authorities accept applications until January 15, 2026.
Bamboo Garden covers more than one hectare and includes two nine-story buildings with a total of 432 apartments. The project’s total investment exceeds VND242 billion ($9.2 billion).
The Dong Hoi social housing complex locates at Lot 5B2 of the Dong Hoi resettlement area in Dong Anh Commune, developed by Thang Long Co Ltd.
This project offers 88 units converted from rental to sale, with sizes ranging from 57.8 to 67.2 square meters.
Prices exceed VND15 million ($570) per square meter, which places each unit at roughly VND867 million ($32,960) to more than VND1 billion ($38,000). The city will accept applications until January 12, 2026.
The Dong Hoi social housing project covers more than 4,500 square meters and includes a 30-story apartment building with two basement levels, providing a total of 504 units.
Under the national plan to develop at least one million social housing units, Hanoi has received a target of 56,200 units by 2030, one of the highest allocations nationwide.
This year, the city expects to complete six projects with more than 4,700 units, exceeding its annual target.
Since late 2024, Hanoi has launched several new social housing projects, yet prices have continued to rise.
Three years ago, launch prices stayed below VND20 million ($760) per square meter, while recent projects now range from VND25 million ($950) to nearly VND30 million ($1,140) per square meter.
