Prime Minister approves Ha Long city expansion

The project aims to enhance the position of Ha Long city and Quang Ninh province in the international area.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved the task of adjusting the expansion of Ha Long city by 2040 and a vision until 2050, according to the government portal.

The scope of direct research in the administrative boundaries of Ha Long city with an area of 27,753.91 hectares. The area of indirect research includes the districts of Hoanh Bo (4 communes in the south of Hoanh Bo district) and Quang Yen town (two wards, communes).

The project aims to enhance the position of Ha Long city and Quang Ninh province in the international area.

Accordingly, it aims to develop Ha Long city towards sustainable development, suitable for the requirements of green growth and adaptation to climate change; build and develop Ha Long city into a civilized and friendly sea-tourist city, a center of world-class tourist service and tourism, and a synchronous socio-economic infrastructure system. It is associated with preserving and promoting the world natural heritage of Ha Long Bay.
At the same time, it is meant build a modern and synchronous system of technical infrastructure and urban social infrastructure; play the role of a nucleus, an important traffic hub of the whole country, the main gate to the sea of the northern provinces. It will be used as a basis for planning management, policy development for Ha Long city and further preparation of investment in urban construction as planned.
To achieve the above objects, the requirement is to review the overall content of the approved master plan in 2013 and the practical situation of urban development in Ha Long city as planned. Development orientation needs to be harmonized with the request to preserve and promote the value of Ha Long Bay World Natural Heritage in the direction of sustainability, cultural relics, tourism resources of the city and environmental protection.
Earlier, the province has proposed building a coastal road linking Ha Long and Cam Pha and an express railway travelling from Hanoi to Mong Cai Town.
Hon Gai International Harbour in Ha Long City is scheduled to put into operation next month. The harbour which can receive the world’s largest cruise vessels has a total investment of nearly VND1 trillion (USD45.54 million).
