Prime Minister breaks ground for construction of Minh Tam Cement Factory
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc participated in a ground-breaking ceremony for the Minh Tam Cement Plant in the southern province of Binh Phuoc’s Hon Quan district on January 2 during his visit to locality.
Addressing the event, Prime Minister (PM) Phuc hailed the investor for pouring investment into a remote area and using advanced German technology and noted that the factory should use natural resources in an effective and economical manner.
The PM highlighted that the project will benefit from advanced technology imported from Germany.
The 12 trillion VND (527 million USD) plant, with a total capacity of about 4.5 million tonnes per year, is expected to generate thousands of jobs for local people and revenues for the local budget.
He asked investors to complete the project within 18 months so as to contribute to the local socio-economic development.
The project should strive for a long-term sustainable operation by focusing on protecting the environment rather than exploiting it for a short time, the PM noted.
The Cabinet leader also asked Binh Phuoc province to create favourable conditions for the investors during construction and to ensure the safe relocation of local residents for the project’s land clearance.
The Government leader also urged investors to use local land and water resources in the most effective and safe way in order to protect the natural environment of the region.
During his visit to Binh Phuoc province, the PM also visited a high-tech agriculture centre which covers 50 hectares in Dong Xoai town and was invested with VND100 billion (US$4.4 million).
According to provincial authorities, the centre's building is the foundation to develop farming areas where advanced technology will be applied to increase the economic value of agricultural products.
The PM expected that the centre would work with scientists, cooperatives and enterprises to expand this model to other provinces and pledged the government's ongoing support by refining policies to facilitate high-tech agriculture.
The Government leader also mentioned the VND60 trillion (US$2.6 billion) credit package which would be channelled through many banks to give agricultural investors easier access to capital.
At the working session with provincial leaders on January 2, PM Phuc urged the province to focus more on the development of smart agriculture.
He said the province should mobilise all resources to expand a smart model of vegetable growing in order to make prestigious export products branded as a representative of Vietnam in the world market.
