Thua Thien-Hue invests US$85,700 to preserve Phuoc Tich ancient village
In 2017, Phuoc Tich ancient village welcomed nearly 2,700 tourists. By 2020, Thua Thien-Hue aims to restore a total of 25 “nha ruong” (wooden houses) in the village.
Thua Thien-Hue province People’s Committee has invested more than VND2 billion (US$85,700) on a master plan to preserve and promote the historical and architectural values of the Phuoc Tich ancient village in tandem with sustainable tourism development.
Phuoc Tich ancient village, covering an area of 53.9 ha, is one of the most interesting destinations in Thua Thien-Hue for domestic and foreign visitors.
The master plan includes identifying relics of the Phuoc Tich ancient village which need protection and preservation, providing guidance on the reconstruction of the architectural space and landscape surrounding the relics, and developing tourism services for the benefit of the local community.
Earlier, the Thua Thien-Hue province People’s Committee has spent VND3.6 billion (US$155,180) to restore five “ruong” (wooden) houses in Phuoc Tich ancient village.
The program is part of the Thua Thien-Hue province People’s Committee’s project to safeguard and promote the values Hue’s iconic garden houses.
Once the restoration is completed, the Phuoc Tich management board will discuss with the property owners on how to tidy the houses up and improve the landscape design before they are opened to the public, according to Deputy Director of Phuoc Tich ancient village’s management board Doan Quyet Thang.
Currently, tourists visiting Phuoc Tich village could enjoy homestay, experience traditional cake making, pottery, biking and boat tour riding in O Lau River.
Phuoc Tich, 50km from Hue city, together with Duong Lam village in the outskirt of Hanoi, are recognized as national cultural-historical relics by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
Located at Phong Hoa commune in Phong Dien district, the village was established under the reign of King Le Thanh Tong (1460 - 1497) and firstly named Dong Quyet, and subsequently renamed Phuoc Tich during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 - 1945).
