GE partners with Vietnamese investor to develop wind farm project

The partnership between the two companies would partly contribute to the country’s energy transition.

GE Renewable Energy will supply 15 units of its 4MW-137 wind turbines for the Cau Dat wind farm project, the first one in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong.

This is the first partnership between GE and Ocean Renewable Energy JSC as two companies have been working closely for a year on wind farm design, layout, transportation and engineering.

Construction of the 54MW-Cau Dat Wind farm is in full swing and its completion is expected by the third quarter of 2021. The contract also provides a 10-year full-service agreement for operation and maintenance of the wind farm, which is being developed by Ocean Renewable Energy.

The project is built on 2ha of land in Xuan Truong and Tram Hanh communes in the Tay Nguyen (Central Highland) province of Lam Dong's Da Lat City, with a designed capacity of about 90 million kWh per year. Its total investment is up to US$57 million in the form of build-operate-own.

The project will create jobs during the initial construction period and employment opportunities in operations, maintenance and project support services throughout the agreement period.

Gilan Sabatier, Regional Leader for GE Renewable Energy’s Onshore Wind Business in South Asia and ASEAN, said: “The award of the Cau Dat wind farm further validates the great work and commitment we have done in Vietnam and reaffirms our important contribution to the country’s energy transition.”

This project is expected to help Lam Dong province contribute to achieving the renewable energy goal of the country as well as lays the foundation for the project expansion in the coming years, according to Do Van Binh, General Director of Ocean Renewable Energy.
