Vietnam Airlines to sell 900 million shares next month

Vietnam Airlines will launch a share sale to boost capital, repay debt, expand its fleet, and pursue long-term growth across Southeast Asia.

THE HANOI TIMES — The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (HVN) will sell 900 million shares at VND10,000 (US$0.40) per share to current shareholders from August 7 to September 8.

The company will finalize the list of eligible shareholders on July 22. Each qualified shareholder will be able to purchase 406 new shares for every 1,000 shares they own on that date.

The offering is expected to raise VND9 trillion ($334.3 million) for its capital.

The proceeds will be used to repay suppliers, refinance debts, and strengthen operational cash flow.

At its annual general meeting in June 2025, Vietnam Airlines set a target of transporting 25.4 million passengers and 346,000 tons of cargo this year, which represents an on-year increase of 11.6% and 11.5%, respectively.

Consolidated revenue is expected to reach VND116.7 trillion (US$4.5 billion), a 3.5% year-on-year increase.

The airline aims to become one of the top two airlines in Southeast Asia by size, rank among the top 10 most preferred airlines in Asia, maintain its four-star service standard, and work toward achieving a five-star international rating.

The carrier is preparing to invest over VND92 trillion ($3.5 billion) in 50 new-generation narrow-body aircraft for deployment between 2030 and 2035 and is expanding technical infrastructure at key airports, including Long Thanh and Noi Bai.

HVN shares closed flat at VND38,000 ($1.46) on July 10.
