Vietnam completes establishment of diplomatic relations with all 193 UN member states

Vietnam reaches full diplomatic relations with 193 UN nations, underscoring its international standing and commitment to multilateral cooperation worldwide.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam and South Pacific country Tuvalu have established their diplomatic relations, making the former one of the few nations in the world to establish ties with all 193 UN member states.

The signing of the Vietnam-Tuvalu diplomatic relations was achieved at a joint communiqué held on September 24 at Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

This marks a significant achievement in Vietnam’s foreign policy, reaffirming the country’s growing international reputation and position.

Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and Tuvalu’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Labor and Trade Paulson Panapa affirmed that the event lays an important foundation for bilateral cooperation.

Both ministers agreed to promote potential collborations in the areas of maritime economy, tourism, and education, while strengthening coordination at multilateral forums.

Acting Minister Le Hoai Trung also invited Minister Paulson Panapa to visit Vietnam in the near future.

Tuvalu, a small island nation in the South Pacific governed under a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy, is the 193rd country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

Previously, it maintained relations with 123 nations, including six ASEAN members.

Vietnam joined the United Nations on September 20, 1977.
