Vietnam joins board of peace on Gaza conflict
Signing of the Charter of the Board of Peace on ending the Gaza conflict as a founding member, Vietnam has reaffirmed its active role in international peace efforts grounded in international law and the United Nations Charter.
THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam has joined the signing of the Charter of the Board of Peace aimed at ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip, reaffirming its commitment to peaceful solutions based on international law and the United Nations Charter.

On January 22, at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, a Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son attended the signing ceremony on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The event was attended and signed by President Trump together with leaders and government representatives from 19 countries and territories, including Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates and Mongolia.
At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son said Vietnam highly values President Trump’s efforts to promote peace, cooperation and prosperity worldwide.
He said Vietnam stands ready to closely coordinate with other board members in implementing the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict endorsed by the UN Security Council under Resolution 2803 on November 17, 2025.
This cooperation aims to contribute to sustainable peace in the Middle East in line with Vietnam’s consistent stance on the Palestinian issue, grounded in international law and the UN Charter.
On the occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister held exchanges with several members of President Trump’s cabinet, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Executive Council member Jared Kushner.

He conveyed General Secretary To Lam’s appreciation for President Trump’s continued support for the development of Vietnam-US relations and for a Vietnam that is strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous.
He also extended an invitation from General Secretary To Lam and Vietnam’s senior leaders to President Trump and the First Lady to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
Cabinet members of President Trump affirmed their commitment to advancing the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership substantively, including efforts to reach an early agreement on reciprocal tariff negotiations.
They welcomed Vietnam’s participation in the Board of Peace as a founding member and said President Trump would arrange a visit to Vietnam when conditions permit.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son met Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who conveyed his regards to General Secretary To Lam and congratulations on the 14th National Party Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The president expressed his wish to visit Vietnam in 2026 to advance the Strategic Partnership and implement high-level agreements reached during General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Azerbaijan in May 2025, particularly in oil and gas and technology.
President Aliyev also welcomed Vietnam’s decision to co-found the Board of Peace and expressed interest in enhancing cooperation and sharing development experience to contribute to reconstruction efforts not only in Gaza but also in other regions.
During the working trip, Deputy PM Son also met the foreign ministers of Indonesia, Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia and held discussions with senior representatives of the Board of Peace, including former UN Special Envoy for the Middle East Nickolay Mladenov.
Talks focused on cooperation within the council framework as well as bilateral issues.
In Davos, partners welcomed Vietnam’s decision to join the Board of Peace and expressed confidence that Vietnam’s peaceful foreign policy, history of resilience and experience in post-war reconstruction would make a positive contribution to regional peace.
Earlier on January 16, 2026, President Donald Trump sent a letter inviting General Secretary To Lam to participate in the Board of Peace as a founding member.
In his reply, General Secretary To Lam reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent support for and readiness to contribute to international efforts to resolve conflicts by peaceful means, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter and with respect for the legitimate rights of all parties.
He stressed that the establishment of the Board of Peace is a necessary step to effectively implement the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict under UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
Lam said that Vietnam stands ready to work with the United States and the international community to promote a long-term and comprehensive solution to the Middle East peace process, including the goal of establishing a Palestinian state living peacefully alongside the State of Israel.

The UN Security Council Resolution 2803 was passed on 17 November 2025 to give effect to the Gaza peace plan agreed by Israel and Hamas in October 2025. The resolution was welcomed by the Palestinian Authority and denounced by Hamas. This resolution endorsed the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, welcoming the establishment of a Board of Peace (BoP) and authorising the BoP to establish a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza. |
