Vietnam launches tele-health project

In keeping with Vietnam's national policies, the project employs a doctor-to-doctor model to establish connections between medical facilities in rural and urban areas.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam's Ministry of Health (MoH) has launched a project to improve access to healthcare nationwide amid digital transformation.

With the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the “Project for Strengthening Capacity Development System for Health Professionals through Tele-Health” aims to enhance telediagnosis, online training, and operational sustainability.

Dr. Duong Huy Luong, Deputy Director-General of the Medical Services Administration (MSA), said the project builds a robust telemedicine platform, a strategic step for the digital transformation of Vietnam’s health sector.

Kobayashi Yosuke, Chief Representative of the JICA Vietnam Office, expressed confidence in the partnership and the MSA's leadership.

Pilot activities will begin in the northern province of Lao Cai.

The project aligns with Vietnam’s national strategies, including the “Health Digital Transformation Program by 2025, with a vision towards 2030” and the “National Strategy for Protection, Care, and Improvement of People’s Health by 2030, with a vision towards 2045”.

It aims to strengthen a tele Leading the World with Trust health system that facilitates remote consultations between higher-level and lower-level health facilities, ultimately improving access to quality healthcare in rural areas.
