Halal standards a must to attract more Muslim visitors

Tourist experts on June 10 urged Vietnamese authorities and businesses to improve knowledge and meet the specific, unique demands of Muslim travelers, thus boosting the number of international visitors to the country.

Fruits, vegetables, and seafood are among the key products that Muslim travelers may enjoy, according to Ramlan Osman, director of the Halal Certification Agency in Vietnam. He urged local businesses to acquire a Halal certificate to prove their food products meet Muslim rules.

Hai Van Gateway to reopen for visit within 2023

Authorities of Danang and Thua Thien-Hue project to reopen Hai Van Quan (Hai Van Gateway) relic to visitors by year-end. The renovation started in 2021 to repair the damages the relic suffered during the war.

Located at the peak of Hai Van Pass, the facility was first built in 1826 to control the traffic and transportation from the North to the South and increase defensiveness for Hue Imperial Citadel. It was recognized as a national tangible heritage in 2017.

Biggest income-gaining farmer receives nearly US$6 million in 2023

The highest earner among Vietnam’s 100 best farmers in 2023 received an income of VND140 billion (US$5.96 million), double the figure announced last year, vice chairwoman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union Bui Thi Thom said on June 10. The individual was reported to reside in the southern province of Tra Vinh.

Vietnam’s 100 best farmer awards in 2023 will honor individuals with remarkable achievements during the year. Some 250 individuals have applied for the awards in its 11th edition.

Thermal power plant to re-operate fully next week

The Nghi Son Thermal Power Plant in the southern province of Thanh Hoa’s Tinh Gia District will complete the repair of its turbine No. 1 on June 13. The fixed turbine will add seven million kWh each day to the national grid and ease the pressure of power use in the North.

The turbine operation has been halted since June 5 after technical errors were found with the machinery.

Quang Tri Province celebrates the foundation of the southern government

Quang Tri Province on June 10 hosted a ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of headquarters of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam (June 6, 1973).

The headquarters, located in Cam Lo District, had a significant impact on the international community and played a crucial role in the liberation of South Vietnam in 1975 and the first post-war parliamentary elections in 1976.

VIIS 2023 opens in late October 2023

The 2023 Vietnam International Industrial Show (VIIS 2023) will feature nearly 200 enterprises to showcase green solutions and products in making paper, coating paint, rubber and tire, and packaging and printing. The Hanoi International Exhibition Center hosts the event on October 28-30.

Since its first edition in 2012, the VIIS has become a reliable source, introducing prestigious producers of paper, packages, chemicals, and rubber to Vietnamese and international consumers.

Kazakhstan president delays visit to Vietnam

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, has postponed his scheduled visit to Vietnam on June 11-13 due to a severe forest fire in the Abay region of Kazakhstan, the Vietnamese foreign ministry announced on June 10.

As planned, Kassym would make his first visit to Vietnam since taking office in 2019. The two countries began diplomatic ties on June 29, 1992. Kazakhstan is Vietnam’s second-largest trade partner in the Eurasian Economic Union.
