New regulation released to extend registration due dates

As of June 3, owners of non-commercial vehicles with up to 9 seats will be able to obtain the

inspection extension document without having to travel to inspection facilities. This is part of Circular No. 08/2023/TT-BGTVT, which amends the regulations on technical safety and environmental inspection of road vehicles.

The circular allows for an automatic six-month extension of the inspection document for some 1.9 million vehicles manufactured between 7 and 20 years ago, whose validity expires on June 5.

First Vietnamese Women's Forum in Europe opens

The Vietnamese Women's Forum in Europe held its inaugural event in Budapest to discuss challenges and opportunities for Vietnamese women to preserve cultural values while integrating into Europe.

The forum aimed to promote Politburo Resolution 36 and Conclusion 12 on Overseas Vietnamese. About 250 delegates from Vietnamese women's organizations across Europe attended the event to foster networking and support for building a stronger community and contributing to Vietnam's development.

Nine Vietnamese universities among the world's best 

Vietnam has nine universities in Times Higher Education's 2023 Impact Ranking, the highest number ever. Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is the highest-ranked Vietnamese institution in the 301-400 group, followed by Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Duy Tan University in Da Nang in the 401-600 group.

The ranking evaluates universities according to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, with a score calculated from the top three scores of 16 SDGs and an additional score for partnerships for the goals.

Vietnam, Cambodia extend trade agreement

Vietnam and Cambodia, on June 2, extended an agreement to boost bilateral trade in 2023-2024, providing tax and tariff incentives for exporters from both countries to boost exports.

The agreement, first signed in 2006, has driven up bilateral trade between the two economies, which grew by an average of 18.5% per year in 2010-2015 and 21% per year in 2015-2020. In 2022, Vietnam and Cambodia exchanged a total of $10.57 billion worth of goods, up 11% from the previous year, making Vietnam Cambodia's third largest trading partner in the world.

UNDP celebrates 45th anniversary in Vietnam

Vietnam and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) celebrated the 45th anniversary of their partnership for sustainable development in Vietnam on June 2. UNDP has been crucial in supporting Vietnam's transition from a poor, war-torn country to an upper-middle-income nation and a global leader in poverty reduction and growth.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to work together towards a green, prosperous, and resilient Vietnam.

Nearly US$10-million company’s bank account frozen for investigation

Police sealed off the bank account of Da Nang Development Investment and Construction Corporation, with VND222 billion (US$9.8 million), after it was accused of swindling public funds during a share sale. The company's former general director, Nguyen Quang Trung, has been sentenced to five years for violating regulations on the management and use of state assets.

Trung and others transferred state property without proper valuation, resulting in a loss of more than VND2.6 trillion ($115 million). The bank account has been frozen as part of the ongoing investigation.
