Vietnam's sustainable tourism development plan launched

This year, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism will organize the annual National Green Tourism Forum, assess and grant sustainable tourism certifications for hospitality establishments and hotels.

The authority will also explore the development of a green tourism certification scheme that meets international standards for Vietnamese tourism products and destinations. 

These are some of the contents of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's plan to execute the Prime Minister's Directive No. 08 for the comprehensive, rapid and sustainable development of tourism in the coming period.

Vietnam among top 10 pork markets: US Department of Agriculture

Vietnam is among the world's top 10 pork markets and is expected to grow by 28.3% annually, according to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) estimates that Vietnam's pork consumption will grow by an average of 3.1% per year to four million tons in 2025 and 4.7 million tons in 2030.

The USDA forecast that the global pork market will reach 131 million tons in volume this year, up 7.2% on-year.

 

Export value of cameras, camcorders and components up 69.5

Exports of cameras, camcorders and components grew by 69.5% in the first quarter of 2024, reaching over US$2.15 billion, according to the General Statistics Office. Destination markets are experiencing significant growth. China is the largest buyer of cameras, camcorders and components from Vietnam, followed by the US and South Korea.

In 2023, the export of cameras, camcorders, and components reached over $7.6 billion, a 19.5% increase inter-annually. This product category ranks third in terms of growth rate, following fruits and vegetables and rice.

Rohto-Mentholatum to sponsor Vietnamese national football teams

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on April 2 that Japanese pharmaceutical company Rohto-Mentholatum Vietnam will be the main sponsor of the Vietnamese national football teams until 2027. According to the federation and the company, the partnership will give a big boost to Vietnam's football industry.

The company's general manager, Hirofumi Shiramatsu, believes that with Rohto Mentholatum's support, Vietnamese players and national teams will overcome challenges and achieve new heights.

Vietnamese weightlifter qualified for Olympic Games

Trinh Van Vinh, the Vietnamese weightlifter, has officially qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris after achieving the best result of 294 kg in his 61 kg category at the 2024 World Men's Weightlifting Championships, which placed him in the top nine in the world in the Olympic classification. Vinh became the 6th Vietnamese athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games.

In addition to Vinh, other Vietnamese athletes who have qualified for the Olympics include Nguyen Thi That (cycling), Trinh Thu Vinh, Le Thi Mong Tuyen (shooting), Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming), Vo Thi Kim Anh (boxing).

Hanoi to have 40 more communes meeting new-style rural area standard


This year, Hanoi aims to have another 40 communes meet the standards of advanced new-style rural areas and 35 communes meet the standards of new-style rural areas.

The municipal People's Committee has set targets for Chuong My District to have two communes with advanced standards and three with standard standards; Me Linh district to have two in each set of standards; Soc Son district to have three; and Dong Anh district to have three and four communes respectively.
