In the first half of 2024, international tourists to Phu Quoc Island in the southern province of Kien Giang increased by nearly 135% compared to the same period in 2023. Truong Sa photos on display in Ho Chi Minh City

An exhibition of photos of the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago was opened in Ho Chi Minh City from August 2 to 8 to mark the 60th anniversary of the first victory of the Vietnamese People's Navy [August 5, 1964 - 2024].

The works capture the lives of the soldiers and the residents of the islands and oil platforms, and reflect the feelings of people across the country toward the soldiers.

Nearly $238,000 for Siki gibbon conservation in Quang Binh

A budget of $238,000 USD for a Siki gibbon (Nomascus siki) conservation project in the biodiversity-rich Truong Son mountain range in central Quang Binh province has been approved by the provincial People's Committee. The project aims to improve wildlife conservation, strengthen forest management and reduce deforestation.

The Siki gibbon, also known as the white-cheeked black gibbon, is categorized as critically endangered on both the Vietnamese and global Red Lists. It is a gibbon species prioritized for protection and conservation.

Hon Thom, the world's longest cable car, is in the South of Phu Quoc island.

Vietnam, Brazil to boost cooperation potential in defense, agriculture and renewable energy

An international seminar to discuss measures to further boost Vietnam-Brazil cooperation potential, especially bilateral ties in defense, agriculture and renewable energy, was jointly held in Hanoi on August 2. Brazil is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in Latin America, with two-way trade reaching US$7.11 billion in 2023.

Vietnam-China trade reaches $113 billion in seven months

In the first 7 months of 2024, bilateral trade between Vietnam and China reached US$113 billion, up 11.3% year-on-year. Vietnam's exports to China totaled US$33.4 billion, up 7.6% year-on-year, while imports reached US$79.2 billion, up 34.9%. China remains Vietnam's largest trading partner in the world, and Vietnam is China's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia.

Australia supports Vietnam's green finance initiative 

Australian officials, including Treasurer Jim Chalmers, expressed their willingness to help Vietnam develop its green financial market when they met Vietnamese Finance Minister Ho Duc Phoc during his visit to the country. Following the upgrading of the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the two countries aim to implement specific cooperation programs in various areas. Australia, which is keen on green finance, issued VND163.3 trillion (US$7 billion) in green bonds in June to support clean energy.

World Student Festival showcases student leadership in global development

Ho Chi Minh City kicked off the first World Student Festival and the 8th International Student Science Forum on August 2. The festival, which runs through tomorrow, highlights the role of students in global change and sustainability. Fansipan's Gladiolus Festival draws thousands with vibrant blooms

The 2024 Gladiolus Flower Festival at Fansipan, Vietnam's highest mountain, runs until August 30, showcasing vibrant orange blooms at an altitude of over 3,000 meters.
