Danang to cash in on cruise tourism development

The central coastal city of Danang plans to spend nearly VND7.3 trillion (US$287 million) to develop tourism ports and improve services by 2050. Under the plan, the city will build three new ports at Dragon Bridge, Van Village at Hai Van Pass and the Intercontinental Resort on Son Tra Peninsula. Others include a port on Bach Dang Avenue and in the Da Phuoc coastal urban area in Hai Chau District. Danang expects the cruise industry to create 57,000 jobs for locals by 2050 and contribute 4%-5% of the city's GRDP.

AEON to boost Vietnamese lychee exports to Japan by 120%

AEON Global Merchandising Company, a subsidiary of AEON Group, is expected to export about 30 tons of Vietnamese fresh lychee to Japan in 2024, up 120% on year. The Japanese retailer has been importing lychee grown in Thanh Ha District, Hai Duong Province, for five years and planned to increase the import volume of this fruit. 

Vietnam and Singapore promote cross-border e-commerce and digital payments

Singapore has proposed strengthening trade promotion through links between each Vietnamese province or city and Singaporean businesses to ensure successful investment, news heard at a conference on May 30 in Singapore. The event is expected to help both sides fully tap the potential of cross-border e-commerce and digital payments for manufacturing sectors.

 

Transport Ministry calls for measures to curb airfares

The Ministry of Transport on May 30 asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) to take measures to control airfares while monitoring airlines' pricing policies and conducting inspections if necessary. The ministry also urged domestic airlines to strictly follow the rules on pricing, price posting, and promotions. They are also asked to increase the number of night flights during peak hours.

Vietnamese startups participate in InnovFest technology expo

Three outstanding startups from Vietnam participated in InnovFest x Asia 2024, the leading regional technology expo, in Singapore from May 29 to 31. The Vietnamese startups, including AirCity (providing smart city solutions), Foodmap (a platform connecting agricultural products with consumers), and Meta DAP (providing advanced data and analytics solutions), are expected to promote their brands at the event. 

 

Children explore Vietnam and world heritage at Hanoi museum

The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology will organize the "Fun Exploring the Heritage of Nations" program for children on June 1 and 2. Children will explore the cultural heritage of Vietnam and the world, which will foster their love and awareness of cultural heritage preservation.

Activities include heritage painting, learning about the national flags, capitals, and currencies of Southeast Asian countries, and most importantly, creating paintings on ethnic costumes, playing puppeteers, experiencing water puppetry, and participating in many folk games. The museum offers free admission for people with disabilities and children from ethnic minorities.

Vietnam Security Summit 2024, an international conference and exhibition on cybersecurity, has launched a new platform for managing and early warning of cybersecurity risks with the participation of more than 50 leading security solution providers. According to reports, the damage caused by cyberattacks in 2023 was estimated at $8 trillion, which is expected to rise to $9.5 trillion in 2024. The event gathered over 1,000 delegates from various industries in Hanoi on May 30.

VinFast among the 100 most influential companies

TIME magazine announced the list of the 100 most influential companies in the world (TIME100), including VinFast of billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong. TIME compiled this list by collecting suggestions from various fields and consulting experts.

The TIME 100 evaluates companies not only on financial metrics, but also on impact, innovation, ambition, and success. VinFast made a splash with its August 2023 IPO in the U.S., when shares soared 700% in just two weeks, and with its 2024 plan to triple car deliveries. Despite a loss of $618.3 million in the first quarter of 2024, Vuong pledged to break even next year, funding it with $1 billion from his personal fortune.
