Vietnam and Singapore strengthen partnership

Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong discussed further cooperation in trade, technology, clean energy, and food security in Vientiane on October 9. Vietnam became Singapore's largest supplier of rice in early 2024, and both sides expressed their commitment to expanding economic and agricultural ties.

Vietnam asks Brunei to facilitate fishing 

Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Brunei's President Hassanal Bolkiah in Vientiane on October 9 to facilitate fishing permits for Vietnamese fishermen and expedite the extension of a memorandum of understanding to address illegal fishing issues. The two leaders emphasized strengthening high-level exchanges and effective implementation of the Vietnam-Brunei Comprehensive Partnership Action Plan for 2023-2027. 

Vietnam seeks German investment in high-tech sectors

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc met with the German SME Association (BVMW) in Germany on October 9. The BVMW discussed opportunities for cooperation in energy transition and workforce training. Phoc emphasized Vietnam's economic potential and invited the BVMW to facilitate German investment in high-tech and renewable energy sectors.

Vietnam pledges support for comprehensive disarmament at the UN

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang reiterated Vietnam's support for comprehensive disarmament at the United Nations on October 8. He emphasized reducing military spending, strengthening nuclear disarmament treaties, and promoting dialogue. Vietnam also supports the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone and global governance of emerging technologies such as AI.

Exhibition Celebrates Hanoi's Liberation and Traditional Craftsmanship

The "Soul of the Earth" exhibition opened on October 8 at Bat Trang Ceramic JSC to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Hanoi's liberation and the 65th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's visit to Bat Trang. The month-long exhibition showcases ceramic artworks that reflect traditional craftsmanship and creative spirit, with works honoring Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi.

Upcoming festival aims to boost tourism in northern Vietnam

The 2024 Putaleng Festival in Tam Duong District, in the northern mountain province of Lai Chau, will be held from November 21 to 24 to highlight ethnic minorities' cultures, mostly H'Mong. The festival aims to promote the rhododendron forest and encourage local tourism and investment through displays of local OCOP products.

Business Week encourages reading among entrepreneurs

The 2024 Business Week and Books event, held in Ho Chi Minh City from October 8-14, promotes reading among entrepreneurs. It highlights the "Top 10 Books by Vietnamese Entrepreneurs" and features exhibitions, discussions, and book discounts of up to 35% to encourage business leaders to read and engage with literature.

Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club advances in the AFC Women's Champions League

Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club defeated Indian side Odisha 3-1 on October 9 in the AFC Women's Champions League. The win puts Ho Chi Minh City through to the quarter-finals alongside Urawa Reds ahead of their last group match on October 12.

Vietnam promotes culture and tourism through cinema

Vietnam is harnessing its diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage to promote tourism through cinema, said Ngo Phương Lan, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Film Development Promotion Association (VFDA), at the 29th Busan International Film Festival, held from October 2 to 11 in South Korea.

The VFDA representative highlighted locations like Ninh Binh and Danang as prime destinations for international film production. She outlined plans to strengthen the film industry by attracting international investors and filmmakers while collaborating with local governments to implement supportive policies and initiatives that draw foreign productions. This effort aims to boost tourism and foster cultural exchange.
