Vietnam reaffirms role as reliable partner at meeting with non-resident ambassadors

As Vietnam enters a new stage of development, the country is reinforcing its foreign policy message of openness, responsibility and proactive global engagement amid a complex international landscape.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam will remain a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said on January 19.

Hang said Vietnam considers diplomacy and international integration core and enduring priorities.

She noted that the country will pursue an independent and self-reliant foreign policy through multilateralism and diversified partnerships while meeting non-resident ambassadors who traveled to Vietnam to attend the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

“Vietnam will seek deeper and more effective global engagement, expand multilateral diplomacy and take a more proactive role in addressing regional and global challenges,” the deputy minister said.

Hang urged the ambassadors to continue serving as bridges for cooperation, with a focus on strengthening political trust and expanding economic ties.

Beyond traditional areas, Vietnam will promote new growth drivers such as digital transformation, science and technology, renewable energy and green agriculture, while further strengthening people-to-people exchanges, she added.

According to the deputy minister, Vietnam has made outstanding socio-economic development achivevments since the launch of Doi Moi reforms in 1986.

Vietnam’s GDP reached about $514 billion in 2025, ranking 32nd globally, with average annual growth of 6.3% from 2021 to 2025.

The gains in human development and poverty reduction help Vietnam enter the upper-middle-income group and improve living standards.

The 14th National Party Congress, Hang said, is a historical moment in Vietnam’s development and will set policy directions for 2026-2030, with a long-term vision to 2045.

Welcoming the envoys on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she described their presence as a sign of international solidarity and valuable support for Vietnam’s Party, State and people.

For their part, the ambassadors said they feel honored to attend the congress and praised Vietnam’s achievements over four decades of reform, particularly its political stability, socio-economic progress and expanding foreign relations.

They commended Vietnam’s rising international profile and said they attach great importance to relations with the country.

The diplomats also expressed interest in expanding economic cooperation, tourism and people-to-people exchanges, while deepening practical and long-term partnerships that support peace, stability and shared development.

The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam runs from January 19 to January 25 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi's Tu Liem Ward.
