THE HANOI TIMES — Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered ministries, military and public security forces to coordinate with local authorities to mobilize resources and use all possible means to access isolated areas to support people in need.
Chinh made the statement on October 9 afternoon while chairing the Government meeting in Hanoi to review recovery efforts following Typhoon Matmo.
He said the historic rains and floods caused severe losses still under assessment and warned that inundation risks and more storms may persist through year-end.

For that reason, the Government guides relief and disaster recovery efforts, especially in severely affected localities.
The agencies must be ready to support localities in reinforcing dikes and reservoirs, help residents clean up homes and roads after natural disasters, repair damaged houses and ensure temporary shelter for the people.
The Government will release national reserves as needed, assist people to rebuild collapsed houses, Chinh said while reaffirming the commitment that no one will be left exposed to the elements.
The prime minister also requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to enhance forecasting capacity and closer international coordination to ensure a timely and effective response to natural disasters, given that disasters and weather evolution remain complex in the coming time.
Speaking at the event, Tran Cam Tu, Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, said that the urgent task is to restore the operations of medical facilities and schools.
