Vietnam showcases diverse, sustainable tourism offerings to German market

Vietnam is ramping up efforts to attract German travelers by offering authentic, sustainable, and deeply local experiences.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam is making a strong push to attract more German travelers, with a recent tourism promotion program held in Munich by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The event is part of a broader European campaign to position Vietnam as a top destination for international tourists, particularly those from Germany, a key market with growing interest in meaningful and experiential travel.

Understanding the German preference for "slow travel", which emphasizes immersion in local culture, sustainability, and personalized experiences, Vietnamese representatives showcased destinations that align perfectly with these values for the fact that rather than rushing through tourist hotspots, German travelers are seeking journeys that allow them to deeply connect with the places they visit.

Vietnam is well-equipped to deliver on that promise with heritage-rich destinations of historic sites, imperial cuisine, historical architecture, and picturesque rural landscapes such as Hanoi, Hue, Hoi An, and Ninh Binh offering an ideal match for this travel style.

Nature lovers can enjoy spectacular activities such as cruising Ha Long Bay, trekking in Sapa’s rugged mountains, exploring Phong Nha-Ke Bang's vast caves, and discovering the misty Central Highlands. Meanwhile, beach destinations such as Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, and Hoi An offer a blend of cultural experiences and relaxing coastal retreats.

Furthermore, Vietnam is expanding its wellness tourism offerings with natural hot springs, mineral mud baths, and temperate climates with an aim to become a top healthcare travel destination in Asia.

To attract more German visitors, Vietnam offers 45-day visa-free stays and direct flights between Munich and Vietnam. These advantages simplify and enhance the travel experience, strengthening Vietnam’s reputation as an accessible, top-choice destination for German tourists.

In 2024, Vietnam welcomed nearly 250,000 German visitors, reaching the pre-pandemic level. In the first five months of 2025, German arrivals rose 16% on year to nearly 140,000.
