Vietnam to give every citizen VND100,000 on National Day celebrations

The move reflects the deep concern of the Party and the State for all citizens on this historic occasion.

THE HANOI TIMES — Every Vietnamese citizen will receive a gift of VND100,000 (US$4) on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2).

The gift, approved by the Politburo and announced by the Prime Minister on August 28, will be delivered either via bank transfer or cash, as soon as possible and no later than September 2.

The Ministry of Finance, along with relevant agencies, must report to the competent authorities to arrange funding and ensure distribution before August 29.

The State Bank of Vietnam is tasked with directing relevant units and commercial banks to guarantee smooth payment systems and sufficient cash supply, ensuring timely and comprehensive delivery.

With Vietnam’s population currently estimated at 100 million, the total cost of the program is estimated at VND10 trillion ($400 million).

To receive the gift, every Vietnamese citizen must log into their accounts on the national digital identity app VNeID, select the bank, agree to share personal data, and wait for the confirmation from the app operator.

The Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention under the Ministry of Public Security has warned citizens about fake apps and scammers that try to steal their profile data and money.

The department advised that Vietnamese citizens should use only the certified VNeID app, avoid sharing personal information, not access the links delivered via suspicious emails and messages, and report potential crimes to the authorities.
