Vietnam top leaders attend anniversary of Lao National Day
Many members of the Politburo, the country's most powerful body, attended the ceremony.
Top Vietnamese leaders attended the 45th anniversary of Lao National Day (December 2) in Hanoi, the occasion that is aimed to underline the country’s milestone and recount Laos’ journey over the past 45 years.

The ceremony also celebrated the 100th birthday anniversary of Kaysone Phomvihane, the first leader of the Communist Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
The attendees included Vietnam's National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, permanent member of the Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong, Head of the Central Party Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education Vo Van Thuong, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, and Hanoi Party’s Chief Vuong Dinh Hue.

Many other high-ranking officials and former top leaders from the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), State, and National Assembly (NA) were also present.
Speaking at the ceremony, the NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan highlighted the 45-year journey of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR).
She also outlined the achievements of the Lao PDR over the past decades and emphasized the Vietnam-Laos brotherhood.

Addressing the event, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang stressed that the birth of the Lao PDR opened up a new era in which the Lao people can decide their own fate.
The ambassador expressed his thanks to Vietnam for their great support and valuable assistance for Laos’ revolutionary cause at a time when Vietnam was also at war. He underscored Vietnam’s support in the Laotian development, mostly in the Covid-19 pandemic.
So far, Vietnam is the third largest investor in Laos with 413 projects worth more than US$4 billion.

Vientiane Times on Thursday quoted Lao People’s Revolutionary Party chief and the country’s president Bounnhang Vorachith as saying that December 2, 1975 was a day when Lao people of all ethnicities became the true masters of their country and destiny.
The country’s average per capita income has reached US$2,742 in 2020, while roads, airports, bridges and other infrastructure have been built to connect Laos and the rest of the region, Vientiane Times reported.
