Vietnam urges stronger energy cooperation with Malaysia’s Petronas

Petronas has cooperated with the state-owned Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group (Petrovietnam) in a many projects.

THE HANOI TIMES — Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on September 18 called for stronger energy cooperation with Malaysia’s state oil giant Petronas, urging the company to ensure long-term, stable gas supplies and deepen joint efforts with Petrovietnam.

During a working session in Kuala Lumpur as part of his official visit, Man highlighted oil and gas as a “key pillar” of the Vietnam–Malaysia strategic partnership, which he said continues to expand across both bilateral and multilateral fronts.

Petronas and Petrovietnam are expanding into new fields such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) and renewable energy.

The NA chairman appreciated Petronas’s contributions to ensuring Vietnam’s energy security and to promoting the development of bilateral ties.

He expressed his hope that Petronas will keep cooperating with Vietnam in a way that suits the needs and capacities of both sides, particularly in securing long-term and stable gas supplies.

For their part, Petronas leaders underscored the company’s long-standing and effective partnership with Petrovietnam and the Vietnamese Government over the years.

Petronas reiterated its commitment to expanding cooperation and increasing its presence in Vietnam. The group’s leaders voiced their desire to work closely with Vietnam on carbon capture and storage projects.
