Vietnamese parliament elects Tran Thanh Man as new chairman

He was elected to the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam at its 13th Congress in January 2021.

Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Chairman of the 15th National Assembly (NA), was sworn in today (May 20) as the new chairman of the legislative body.

He was unanimously elected by all 475 lawmakers present to lead the National Assembly for the 2021-2026 term.

Tran Thanh Man was born on August 12, 1962, in Chau Thanh A District, Hau Giang Province. He joined the Communist Party in August 1983. He has been awarded several labor medals in 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2017, as well as the Third-Class National Defense Medal.

From 1980 to 2015, Man held key positions in the political and administrative structures of Chau Thanh District, Hau Giang Province, and the southern city of Cantho. In April 2016, he was appointed the Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee for 2014-2019, and a member of the Central Anti-Corruption Steering Committee.

From 2017 to 2021, Man served as Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front. He was elected to the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam at its 13th Congress in January 2021. In April 2021, he was elected Vice Chairman of the 14th National Assembly. Since May 2, 2024, he has been in charge of managing the activities of the legislative body following the retirement of his predecessor, Vuong Dinh Hue.
